Why krill oil – and not standard fish oil?

The absorption difference

Standard fish oil provides EPA and DHA bound to triglycerides – a form that is reasonably well absorbed when taken with food. Krill oil provides the same fatty acids bound to phospholipids – the same type of fat molecule that forms the membranes of every cell in your body.

Because your body already knows how to handle phospholipids, krill-bound omega 3 is absorbed more rapidly and efficiently than triglyceride-bound fish oil, with less risk of the digestive discomfort that makes fish oil so unpopular.

Natural choline and astaxanthin

Krill oil naturally contains two nutrients that standard fish oil does not: choline and astaxanthin. Choline is an essential nutrient that supports normal fat metabolism, liver function and brain health – and most people don’t get enough of it from their diet.

Astaxanthin is one of the most potent natural antioxidants available, and it also helps protect the omega 3 itself from oxidation, which is one reason krill oil does not have the fishy smell and taste of degraded fish oil.

Sustainability and quality

The krill in Omega 3+ Advanced is sourced from Antarctic waters – one of the cleanest, most tightly regulated marine environments in the world. Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) are at the base of the food chain, reproduce rapidly and are harvested under strict sustainability limits.

The oil is processed in a GMP-certified facility in Norway and the softgels are free from titanium dioxide and marine salts. For people who care about what goes into their supplements, and where it comes from, krill oil is a considered choice.

Is Omega 3+ Advanced right for you?

Omega 3+ Advanced is for anyone looking for a high-quality, easy-to-take omega 3 supplement – particularly if:

  • You’ve tried fish oil before and found the taste unpleasant – a vanilla softgel solves this, with no fishy aftertaste
  • You want omega 3 in its most bioavailable form – phospholipid-bound krill oil is more readily absorbed than triglyceride-bound fish oil
  • You want the additional benefits of choline and astaxanthin that come naturally with krill oil
  • You care about where your supplements come from – the krill is sustainably sourced from Antarctic waters and processed in Norway
  • You want to support heart, brain, liver and vision health in one daily serving

Please note: Omega 3+ Advanced contains krill (crustaceans) and bovine gelatin and is not suitable for vegetarians, vegans or those with crustacean shellfish allergies.

"The form of omega 3 matters just as much as the amount. Krill oil delivers phospholipid-bound EPA and DHA that's easier for the body to absorb and gentler to take than standard fish oil."

Ingredient Highlights

Krill Oil – Omega 3 the way your body likes it

Krill oil comes from Antarctic krill – tiny crustaceans that form one of the largest biomasses on Earth and sit at the very base of the marine food chain. Because krill feed on phytoplankton rather than other fish, krill oil is naturally purer and less prone to contamination than fish oil from larger species.

Omega 3+ Advanced uses 1,180mg of krill oil per daily serving, naturally providing EPA and DHA fatty acids in the phospholipid-bound form that your cell membranes are made from. This allows your body to absorb EPA and DHA more efficiently than the triglyceride-bound form used in standard fish oil, and it’s easier on your digestion.

Choline for extra support, naturally

The phospholipids naturally found in krill oil also carry choline – an essential nutrient most people do not get enough of from diet. Choline contributes to normal fat metabolism and liver function, and is a precursor to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for memory and brain - function. Each serving provides 82.5mg of choline.

EPA & DHA - The omega 3 fatty acids that matter

Not all omega 3 is the same. ALA, the omega 3 in flaxseed and walnuts, must be converted by the body into EPA and DHA before it can be used – and that conversion is inefficient. EPA and DHA are the forms the body actually uses, and krill oil provides them directly. Omega 3+ Advanced delivers 177mg EPA and 82.6mg DHA per daily serving – 315mg combined, which exceeds the daily intake associated with normal heart function, brain health and normal vision.

Astaxanthin – a powerful antioxidant

Astaxanthin is a natural carotenoid antioxidant found in krill - it's what gives krill and flamingos their pink colour. It is one of the most potent natural antioxidants in nature and serves two roles in Omega 3+ Advanced: it protects the omega 3 fatty acids from oxidation within the softgel, and provides antioxidant protection in the body after absorption. Standard fish oil does not contain astaxanthin. Each daily serving provides 100 micrograms of natural astaxanthin from the krill extract.

FAQs

When will I feel the benefits?

Starting to absorb

Phospholipid-bound EPA and DHA from krill oil begin absorbing efficiently into your cell membranes with each daily serving. Because krill oil is bound to phospholipids rather than triglycerides, it is more rapidly taken up by the body than standard fish oil – and the vanilla softgel formula means no digestive discomfort to interrupt the habit. Omega 3 levels take weeks to build and become effective, but you may notice some early improvements in energy and mental clarity toward the end of the first month if your levels were very low before starting.

When will I feel the benefits?

Building tissue levels

EPA and DHA levels in your blood and tissues continue to build with consistent daily supplementation. The cardiovascular benefits of omega 3 – supporting normal heart function, blood pressure and lipid metabolism – become more established at this stage. The choline in the krill phospholipid complex is supporting normal liver function and fat metabolism. Some customers notice clearer thinking and more sustained energy after this period.

When will I feel the benefits?

Long-term support

With omega 3 levels consistently maintained, the long-term benefits of daily supplementation are established across multiple systems of the body. Normal heart function, brain health, vision maintenance and triglyceride metabolism are all supported by sustained EPA and DHA intake. The astaxanthin in the krill extract continues to provide antioxidant protection. The body can’t produce omega 3 itself, so consistent daily supplementation is the most reliable way to ensure your levels remain where they need to be.
